Live Long and Prosper in 2010
The Happiest Place on Earth
Oh what a day! 12 hours and over half a dozen rides! Much more to see & say, but for now enjoy this shot before Disneyland became completely overrun.
A Very Pyslent Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, and on our website
All had stopped posting, and comments were light
MovableType still running The Board with due care
Not sure if WordPress would ever get here
Four children were nestled, all snug in their beds
While visions of gadgets danced in dads’ heads
Fantasy football came, right down to the wire
Third Stung played for fun, for the Sound, the stakes much higher
Out on the internet arose such a clatter
I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter
Grabbed the Palm Pre, it was on in a flash
Checked Twitter & email, the App Catalog’s a smash
The internet was crazy, I’d never seen such a flurry
But I must be quick, I must be in a hurry
Then I just saw him, almost did not catch it.
It’s Rotiveo– the patron saint of gadgets!
Rotiveo wore Mobile Pants, size extra tall
And his clothes were vibrating, must be a phone call
Brought a load of gadgets, and even a game
And he whistled, and shouted and called sites by name
“Now Whole Foods! Now Apple! Now Target and Best Buy!
To Starbucks! To Costco! To Sprint Store and Fry’s”
All over the web, he searched high and searched low
To find all the stuff, now it’s ready to go!
All across the internet, Rotiveo he flew
A storm of traffic he did see in his rear view
He found the best deals, on the very best gear
It’s so cutting edge, it will still be good next year.
The net’s overflowing with really good stuff
Getting it to work might be kind of tough
With all sorts of cords and fifty kinds of plugs
(For us early adopters, we’re used to the bugs)
Rotiveo’s got just the right thing for us all
No Foleo, Treo, nor ‘lectronic pinball
Instead its Pres, Mac Pros and Netbooks galore,
Beatles RockBand, iPhones, Kindles and more!
Giant TVs, they are perfect for games
Phones from Nokia, RIMM, and a bunch of no-names
With a fast prime lens, pictures come out quite well.
All of these gadgets are really, really swell
Mike, Joanie & Adam’s first Christmas together
They’ll be much joy and fun, no matter the weather
To Kelvin, Serena, Montana & Lucas
Happily splashing in puddles, even on Christmas
Jake ran over Palos Verdes, just before night
Earlier watched his nephews, create Menorah lights
Derrick, Emily, Brandon & Tiffany
Having fun, in their growing family
Lucas’ third & Brandon’s fifth Christmas Eve
Montana always dreaming, of food I believe
Tiffany and Adam learn that Christmas is grand
Soon most will gather, launch an assault on Disneyland
Rotiveo sprang to Roomba (hacked year before)
And away they went, after cleaning the floor
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
You’re going the wrong way!
So Derrick & I nearly had an impromptu meet-up at Logan Airport this morning. I had a 10 AM flight leaving, and Derrick was arriving on sometime around 8:30. I saw that there was a Delta flight arriving at 8:41 in my terminal, so I texted Derrick and wandered over to the gate. He called, and he was on that flight! Wicked cool!! So as the passengers were getting off the plane, I watched for Derrick so we could have the shortest ever Pyslent meet-up. Then he called to say he got off the back of the plane, and was on the other side of the security cordon. D’oh!
So instead of a picture of our meeting, all I got was a photo of yet another airport ceiling. Bummer. Alas, at least ’twas a good story, and Derrick got to meet an exciting new member of the Pyslent family, so he had a good day nonetheless.
The Googlephone
Sure you’ve all seen the rumors, and now it’s all but confirmed that Google/HTC will be releasing an all-bands GSM phone Engadget has the deets. My quick take is it sounds really nice, and starts to beg the question– if you’re going to buy an Android phone, why settle for a licensee instead of getting the real Google device? I dunno, if I was Samsung or one of the other less-favored phone makers, I’d have second thoughts about building Google’s platform for them. But maybe that’s overblown?
If it’s as great as claimed by Googleco workers, it might be a game changer. Or it might just be the latest in a long line of near market-leading phones that would have been something special in June 2007.
Thoughts?
Snowing on Los angeles!
This was a stop on the way back from DMU Vegas 2009. Had to drop off a friend atop his mountain village, near 6000 feet. The CHP was on the main road into town requiring everyone to put on chains– probably a lot of snow watchers in addition to locals. Luckily, I took the much hairier, curvier backroad and safely passed the 3-4 spun-out cars littered roadside.
