The PalmOS Lives!

Found this walk through of the WebOS PalmOS emulator on PreCentral. Looks pretty cool. My favorite feature, by far, is the virtual 5-way rocker. Teh kewl!

Obvious jokes aside, I read that the emulator won’t be able to access GPS or bluetooth, which means that our T3 still retains it’s role as a dedicated nav unit. It just won’t die!

Interesting FAQ from the developers of the Palm OS emulator indicates that Blazer is dead:
Q: Is the PalmOS web browser (Blazer) included in Classic?
A: No, it is not. webOS contains a significantly more powerful web browser. However, there are lots of PalmOS applications that rely on Blazer services for displaying on-line content. When such an application attempts to launch Blazer and navigate to a web page, Classic will open the default webOS browser and point it to the requested location.

Still no word whether Graffiti 1 is supported 🙂

Just re-watched the video and realized that I missed the most important thing about it the first time around– this guy has a working Pre!
Anyway, he’s about to get some company– I have a feeling it’s going to launch next week. I might know someone :).

Wow, that’s a juicy-sounding tip! Guess we’ll be reading reviews here on The Board in not too long. Kelvin, are you gonna go in for one, too? Maybe this “person you know” can snag one for you.

Damn Kelvin. ’bout time our 10% stake in Palm pays off! Time to put Sprint on speed dial.
Anyone interested in an almost-new Centro?

All very speculative, but when you read wall-to-wall exchanges like this on facebook, what would you conclude, given that the first person works for a company that designs retail packaging and signage for a certain wireless carrier…
is settling into the quiet after a hurricane of a week… phew.
are you all done prepping for next week?
Nope. Next week will be more insane, but I’m just happy to be at the weekend right now, enjoying the weather!

Countdown is on– here’s the latest update from our very own deep throat : I have a hard week at work this week so I’m just looking forward to Friday when it’s all behind me…

  8. Mike Says:

So is it just gonna show up at the kiosks this week? How does Sprint roll things out, anyway? Do they still have Sprint stores?
And wouldn’t it behoove them to have the hype machine on just a little bit, like preannounce the release date more than a day or two before? I think they shouldn’t have announced it, say, a month before, but I think if they said, “The Pre will be available everywhere next week!” they would have gotten a lot of pre-release buzz.
Despite the fact that we all know about it, I don’t feel like there’s been any real effort to publicize it, besides Engadget-guy on Fallon. It’s popped up in a cameo style in lots of Sprint ads, if you know what to look for, but for the population in general, I doubt many of them know there’s a new Palm phone in the works that’s different from the Palm phones they’ve been ignoring for a while now.

Yeah, I’m getting a bit skeptical myself of my source.

  10. jake Says:

well, maybe its just that the signs are being printed on Friday, and will go into the stores on Monday when they announce the May 17 release date.

OK, new grist for the rumor mill! I’m hangout out in a cafe in our old San Francisco ‘hood, and I happened to strike up a conversation with a guy at an adjacent table looking at apartment listings on craigslist. Turned out he was a web designer consultant for Palm.com. He tried to tell me how much cooler the Pre was than his iPhone :). Of course, he didn’t have to sell me, but I played sorta dumb so he’d feed me good info. Unfortunately, the most I got out of him was that the Pre would come out before the 4th of July.
I considered offering him our condo in exchange for better intel :).
