Bailout, stimulus, etc.

February 18th, 2009, 8:45pm by Jake

So Obama came out with his homeowner rescue plan today, and I’ve been Twittering about it most of the day. This was the post that kicked off my mini-diatribe. I’m not very happy about the $700 billion bank/ overextended homeowner bailout, although I will say that I’m confident that Obama will use the money more effectively than Bush. I’ve been complaining about this for a long time; in fact, that photo has been blogged nearly 20 times now! The stimulus, on the other hand, I mostly support, since the money is being broadly distributed throughout the economy and a good amount is going to projects that should provide a net return in the long run. What does everyone think?

So there are many points of view on the housing component of the bailout. This econoblogger thinks that the Obama plan is just right. At the same time, homes are now considered affordable for 59% of Californians, up from 33% last year. So there’s an upside to collapsing home prices.
