iTunes podcast bookmarking

I’ve been using my work computer to download podcasts in iTunes for my iPod, and just so I’d have copies on my personal laptop, I use Foldershare (mentioned here) to synchronize that folder to my laptop. I noticed today that everytime I sync my iPod, I get a new copy of nearly every podcast transferred to my laptop via Foldershare, even though ostensibly, the files of the older podcasts are not being altered on the parent machine. It occured to me that as I cycle through podcasts in my car, I’m updating the bookmark position of each podcast. Is it possible that iTunes writes bookmarking information to the file, as opposed to maintaining it in it’s xml database?  If so, it would be nice if bookmarks could be maintained across platforms.
