HD Streaming from Netflix comes to XBox 360
October 29th, 2008, 11:10am by KelvinPretty extensive review of the XBox OS update posted on Engadget today. It enables streaming of Netflix’s Watch Instantly queue, as previously discussed. Newly revealed, however, is that a limited number of the movies are available as HD resolution streams (only 300 of the 10000 titles available). Coming to a console near you on Nov 19.

Geode Brings Location Awareness to Firefox
October 22nd, 2008, 3:05pm by KelvinIs this groundbreaking? The iPhone and Mike’s EyeFi card use a service called Skyhook to determine your location based on your WiFi hotspot, but I dont’ think there’s a way for PC browsers to take the same information and automatically fill in the location fields in services like Yelp, maps, Yahoo yellow pages, etc. This service for Firefox seems like a first step in building the necessary APIs, and it looks like Yahoo has support. Cool or not?

Battlestar Galactica
October 18th, 2008, 5:50pm by JakeI just ordered seasons 1-3 of Battlestar Galactica for $15 from Amazon. Slickdeals has some other good stuff, like The Office. This works best if you have a Series 2 or later TiVo, but they have Windows download options and web-based viewing as well.
Anyone watch it? Hope I like it– but hey, 52 episodes for $15 is too good a deal to pass up!
iTunes podcast bookmarking
October 15th, 2008, 2:52pm by KelvinI’ve been using my work computer to download podcasts in iTunes for my iPod, and just so I’d have copies on my personal laptop, I use Foldershare (mentioned here) to synchronize that folder to my laptop. I noticed today that everytime I sync my iPod, I get a new copy of nearly every podcast transferred to my laptop via Foldershare, even though ostensibly, the files of the older podcasts are not being altered on the parent machine. It occured to me that as I cycle through podcasts in my car, I’m updating the bookmark position of each podcast. Is it possible that iTunes writes bookmarking information to the file, as opposed to maintaining it in it’s xml database? If so, it would be nice if bookmarks could be maintained across platforms.
I learned how to use layers!
October 13th, 2008, 2:35am by JakeHere’s a photo that I manipulated in GIMP to create this effect, pretty cool. The camp colors are orange & gray, hence the scheme. I might throw in the official camp logo in the upper right, and maybe they’ll use that as the Ropes Course Logo. Plus, we need a new post at the top of the page. Ugh.

Apple notebooks on the way!

Engadget brings word of new Apple laptops being introduced next Tuesday. What does Apple have in store? Typical revisions, or might this be the time they introduce a low-cost netbook or a tablet computer?
