Brady Quinn’s Q

April 30th, 2007, 12:43am by Kelvin

Maybe not obvious to anyone else, but the Browns’ new QB-to-be was seen keeping abreast of his draft status using his Sprint Q. This screen cap was taken while watching last night’s Sportscenter and then emailed to this blog, all from my Q.

Ran up Sleeping Giant Mountain this morning near Kapaa this morning. It was really wet & often steep, so I spent most of the time walking instead of running. Coming down was tougher in way, since a fall would be more serious. Well, I made it to nearly the end of the trail. Here, the wet clay with good traction was supplemented by wet leaves with … well, they were very slippery. I took one bad step out of 10,000, and turned my ankle (guess which one). A hiker helped me out a littlte bit, then my ankle loosened up and I hiked the .5 mile to the road, where I was offered a ride. I’ve been resting, icing, compressing & elevating this morning. Hopefully it will be fine enough in a day or two.

Guess where?

Where do you think I saw this outdated license plate?

Sneak Peak

Picked up our Passat yesterday; here’s a quick snap of the dash, showing the GPS info on the in-dash display.

Slow pace, even more revisited

After being here for almost a week, I think I can nominate the green sea turtle as the official creature of Hawai’i. It’s quite relaxing here.

Awaiting Delivery

April 21st, 2007, 4:50pm by Kelvin

Woohoo! After nearly 5 months, the wait is almost over. Our Passat, which was ordered on 12/5/06, was put on one of these trucks in San Diego yesterday and is on its way to the dealer in San Jose. ETA is listed as April 30th, but VW has been wrong on projected dates every step of the way. Heck at most, the truck has to make 9 stops, so my guess is it will get here during the week. Maybe just in time for Mike and Joanie’s visit next weekend.

Aloha! I’m hiking near ka’aava now, trying not to get too Lost. Beach on 2 sides of the house, blue-green waters, and a jungle. I think this whole place turns into a waterfall and river when the rain comes. Plenty more pics to follow.

Corporate Music Still Sucks

April 17th, 2007, 2:08pm by Mike

Wanna waste some time? Check out the 120 Minutes Archive, which seeks to put up the playlists of every episode of MTV’s classic alternative music show that aired from 1986 to 2003. My high school friends and I would watch this show religiously on Sunday nights, and along with SNL, this would constitute our Monday conversations. As we didn’t have any alternative stations in Birmingham (I think “alternative” probably meant “non-country”), this was the only way we’d hear about these bands in the pre-internet days.

So long, Quicken!

April 15th, 2007, 5:58pm by Jake

I haven’t used Quicken in about a year (after a 10+ year run), so when I logged on today and say this message, I decided it was game over for sure. Apparently, Quicken doesn’t think you should be able to use their software with its advertised features for more than three years. In light of Intuit’s lesser support of Macs over the years( despite a higher prices), the terrible reviews, and their expensive software ($70 retail), I’ve decided that that’s it for me. I don’t use it enough to pay for it, and if I do use similar software in the future, I won’t be paying for Intuit’s entry. N

Treo 700P DUN

April 13th, 2007, 2:19am by Jake

I’ll post soon enough about the new MacBook Pro that I got for work. For now, it’s enough to know that the MBP has built-in Bluetooth, just like my Treo 700p. So I knew eventually I would set up dial-up networking following these instructions. It didn’t seem urgent right now. But then… the internet connection at work was shut off! I had a fe free minutes this afternoon, so I actually managed to download & install the necessary Palm software onto the 700p. And set up th Mac, too, using the on-screen instructions shown on the Treo. Alas, I was stopped just short of my goal, as I didn’t have the Vision password required to make the connection. Kelvin made a valiant effort to change that for me, but he needed to know the original password first– catch 22! Fortunately, I could reset the password by knowing the answer to my secret question (see rant below). I did that tonight, and now I’m posting on the MBP via the Treo. Awesome!

408kbps download (256 ms latency) and 114 kbps upload. Wow. I’m blown away.
