Football Adventure

November 30th, 2003, 10:11am by Jake

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on the photo blog I’ll be putting together today. In case you didn’t know, me & a friend are driving down to San Diego to watch the Chiefs-Chargers game. But since we’re huge Pats fans, we decided we needed to watch the Pats-Colts game at 10. So we did the only rationale thing– bought a portable satellite dish, a power inverter, loaded up the chairs, the TiVo, refreshments and my 15″ LCD TV. I’ll by posting to the photoblog Kelvin set up.

Rainman Suite

November 29th, 2003, 12:49am by Kelvin

So Serena’s high-roller contacts really hooked us up this time! We’re staying (along with her parents) in a 2BR suite on the penthouse floor (35th) of Harrah’s. Also, as some of you know, I am a long-time member of the Players Club here and they were able to dig up my inactive account. We’re hoping to get comped some tickets to the Blue Man Group, not that my Gold Club membership is gonna help in that endeaver. Regardless, this hizzle certainly makes our recent losses easier to tolerate. We may not leave the room for the rest of the weekend.

no luck so far

November 28th, 2003, 6:37pm by Kelvin

Just a quick update from the trenches. We just lost 5 points in a row. Seems tough to lose $50 at 1 craps, but we’ve managed to do it so far. Don’t worry, we’re due!

Vegas baby!

November 28th, 2003, 5:24pm by Kelvin

Hey guys, one guess where Serena & I are this weekend! We'll be thinking of you all at the Paris buffet and will definitely represent at the craps tables. Hope you are having a fun Thanksgiving.

Treo 600 is live!

November 26th, 2003, 9:09pm by Jake

My Treo is now working. My phone number still goes to Verizon, but that won’t last long! Posting from the Treo, naturally.

Makin' money

November 23rd, 2003, 7:54pm by Jake

OK, just wanted to post a full report from my most recent adventure. My best bioengineering friend from Michigan, Jon, is out here to get together with his family for Thanksgiving. He came over to watch Michigan trounce Ohio St. He mentions that he’s become an avid poker player and planned to play at the Hustler Casino in Gardena (8 miles from my house). I decided to go there, as I needed some extra spending money. Derrick declined my invitation. Read on for the full report.

I got my Treo!

November 21st, 2003, 3:58pm by Jake

I got my Treo 600 a couple of days again. It’s really cool, and it definitely got some jealous looks around the office. One nice bonus is that the form factor is almost identical to that of the iPod, so I can swap carrying cases as necessary. I just bought the Marware Sportsuit Convertible (with armband) so that I can listen to tunes as I run. And if I decide that carrying my cell phone is more important (and I can live with only 128MB of MP3s) so I can take pictures or chat, that can work too! Once the GPS cards come down in price, no reason not to add that.
Anyways, I’m just getting back up to speed with the Palm world. My Sprint PCS agent sent me a personalized “welcome-pack” to help me get ready. (I hear that a similar service is available for users of the Sony Clie’.) I haven’t tried to activate it yet, but it seems to work fine. I get coverage in my office and 3 bars at home. I’ll try to activate Monday (along with half of the US) so I can keep my phone number. Follow-up reports will follow be filed.

From the unintentional irony department

November 19th, 2003, 1:28pm by Jake

Well, there’s an article over at C|Net that’s pretty funny. Just to give you an idea of how weasely some execs are, here’s the opening exchange of the interview:

Q: Stripped of all the jargon and market-speak, can you succinctly define what Adaptive Enterprise is supposed to be about?
A: I define AE as a business strategy for customers who want to respond in real time to changes affecting their business.

Now read it again. Slowly. The title of the article is “Straight Talk on Adaptive Computing.” That might be intentional irony, I’m not sure.

That Didn't Take Long

November 13th, 2003, 8:54am by Mike

Well, leave it to the hackers — Slashdot reports that the Ritz Dakota Disposable Camera has been hacked, with software forthcoming to allow downloading of pictures via USB to Linux, Mac, and Windows. The slashdot discussion focuses (no pun) on the legal and copyright aspects of this, but nobody seems to be discussing that the camera’s picture quality still sucks.

Clone wars

November 12th, 2003, 4:56pm by Kelvin

anyone watching the clone wars on cartoon network? they’re a series of 10 5-minute cartoon shorts that air 1 per day at 8:00PM EST. They are supposed to fill in the action between Star Wars Episode II and III. Anyway, I have the first 3 episodes on my TiVo– they are pretty entertaining, but frustratingly short. I might wait until i have the rest so i can watch them all at once.
Apparently, you can watch the episodes online too, once they’ve aired…
